Experience/Education

I am a 2009 graduate of Michigan State University where I studied Creative Advertising.

>Underground Art Concepts

Underground Art Concepts is the freelance identity I created for myself when I was a freshman at Michigan State University. In it's first year, projects consisted of beer pong tables for my fellow students and paintings on canvas. As my artistic mediums expanded, so did the possibilities of UAC. Recent projects have included painting/designing skateboard decks, snowboards, tattoos, logos, t-shirt designs, CD albums, posters, flyers, and magazine ads.

>PS Magazine

I became an intern for PS Magazine in late 2007 as a graphic artist. I was in charge of the development and aesthetics of events organized and/or sponsored by PS. PS Magazine, an urban and college lifestyle magazine, is well known for its bi-annual ICONZ Fashion Show. My responsibilities included designing large banners, flyers, and print advertisements for the ICONZ Fashion Show for 2 years. I also designed logos and website illustrations for PS Magazine.

>Nicholas Creative Media

In the fall of 2007, I was hired by Nicholas Creative Media to design limited edition artwork for an up-and-coming lacrosse equipment company called Scorpion Lacrosse. The artwork was printed on Scorpion's "Sting" lacrosse shafts all over the world and was featured alongside the artwork of legendary New York graffiti artist, Kaves. Over the following year, Scorpion and Nicholas Creative commissioned print ads, logos, and additional artwork.

>Edison Neighborhood Association

Over the summer of 2006, while residing in my hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan, I was fortunate to meet a legendary Chicago-based graffiti artist, Zeph Farmby. Zeph's design company, I-Amaze-Eyez, offered me an opportunity to collaboratively paint and design a mural for Kalamazoo's Edison Neighborhood Association. As an assitant to Zeph, I helped design and paint the mural. I was also there to assist in organizing area youths from the Boys & Girls Club to join us at art workshops and with the painting of the mural.

>Publications

I've never considered myself a photographer, but I suppose anyone who takes a picture of something could be considered one. During my college career I did just that; took pictures (secretly). I would snap photographs of everyday things I came across that I considered beautiful in their own "ugly" sort of way. During my senior year, I composed them into a controversial, but inspirational photo diary titled, "Your Dreams Are Sh!t." The original idea for the book came from an old trashcan that I used to walk by everyday on my way to class that had those exact words scrawled upon it. The trashcan has since been replaced, but the emotions it stirred up inside and the motivation it gave me, still remains. The book was published by Blurb and can be found online here. My interest in photography has not slowed.
